Hi, I’m Laura — The Girl Behind the Camera

If you’ve landed here because you’re thinking about booking a session with me, I figured it was probably time I introduced myself properly.

I’m Laura, the owner, photographer, editor, planner, prop collector, occasional problem-solver, and basically the “do-it-all person” behind Laura Leigh Photography.

I’m a photographer based in Central Kentucky, and I’ve been doing this since 2013. What started during my senior year of high school way back in 2011 as a way to photograph friends and family who couldn’t afford a photographer eventually turned into a business that has grown into one of the biggest parts of my life.

And honestly? I still can’t believe I get to call this my job.

So, What Do I Photograph?

A little bit of everything — but especially the moments that deserve to be remembered.

I photograph families, newborns, maternity, couples, engagements, weddings, birthdays, cake smashes, seniors, boudoir, and everything in between.

I love the big milestones, but I also love the little in-between moments.

The way your toddler reaches for you.

The laugh you didn’t realize was happening.

The way your partner looks at you when you aren't paying attention.

The tiny details on your newborn that you swear you'll remember forever.

The chaotic family photo where everyone is almost looking at the camera.

Those are the things I want to capture.

I’m Not Here to Make You “Pose Perfectly”

One of the biggest things I hear from people before their session is:

“I’m awkward in front of the camera.”

Good news.

So are most people. 😂

You don't have to know what to do with your hands. You don't have to know how to pose. You don't have to be a professional model.

That's my job.

I'll guide you, give you prompts, make you move, make you laugh, and occasionally tell you to do something that feels completely ridiculous — because those moments usually make the best photographs.

My goal isn't to make you look like someone else.

It's to make you look like you, just photographed really, really well.

A Few Things About Me

When I'm not behind my camera, I'm probably doing one of approximately 47 other things.

I'm a mom, a lover of the outdoors, a huge fan of summer, and someone who would choose an adventure over sitting at home pretty much any day.

I'm also a little obsessed with traveling and have a goal of visiting all 50 states and every U.S. National Park.

I love horror movies and rom-coms, dark romance, cute little contemporary romance books and thriller books, escape rooms, crafting, painting, working out, and anything that gives me an excuse to be outside.

I'm also the person who is perfectly happy getting dressed up for a beautiful wedding or spending the day in leggings and a T-shirt.

Basically, there's a pretty good chance you'll see me with a camera in one hand and an Alani in the other.

Thirteen Years Later...

When I started photography in 2013, I never could have imagined where it would take me.

Over the years, I've had the opportunity to photograph hundreds of people, document some of the biggest moments in their lives, have my work published, compete in photography competitions, and continue learning and growing with every single session.

But the thing I'm proudest of isn't a publication or an award.

It's the fact that people trust me with their memories.

That's something I never take lightly.

Because someday, these photographs won't just be pictures.

They'll be the images your children look back on.

The photograph hanging on your wall years from now.

The reminder of what your family looked like in this exact season of life.

The little details you forgot but are suddenly able to remember.

That's why I do this.

I'll chase your toddlers.

I'll fix your dress.

I'll move your hair.

I'll probably get covered in grass during an outdoor session.

I'll make dad participate even when he'd rather be anywhere else. 😂

And I'll do everything I can to make your session feel less like a photoshoot and more like you just spending time with the people you love.

Because beautiful photographs are important.

But feeling comfortable enough to actually enjoy the experience?

That's what makes the memories even better.
